Record Search

To broaden your search results, use an asterisk(*). The asterisk is a flexible, optional wildcard that represents any number of characters. It can be used at the beginning , middle or end of a word or phrase to increase search results.

  • For example, searching for an address using *123*Main will return results like 123 SW Main, SW 123 Main Avenue, and 122-123 South Main St.
  • Similarly, searching for a name using *Farm will return results like The Historic Farm, Smith’s Farm, and Farmstead Home.

If any information is released that is subject to an exemption in Iowa Code section 22.7 or other applicable law, IEDA does not waive the applicable exemption.

Records available through the Iowa State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO), including records existing within the Iowa Inventory and the Historic Architectural Database (HADB), may include portions of items protected by U.S. copyright law. The nature of historical and architectural records often makes it difficult to determine the exact copyright status or copyright owner of a particular item within a record, especially when only a limited portion of such a potentially copyrighted item appears. Individuals accessing, requesting, or receiving SHPO records have an obligation to determine and satisfy any copyright restrictions when using such records. Transmission, reproduction, or other use of protected items beyond that allowed by fair use under U.S. copyright law generally requires written permission of the copyright owner. Individuals are solely responsible for determining copyright status and for obtaining any permissions that may be required for the proposed use.
